Feb 2008

Last week, we shot a karaoke music video for the PDX fest. 20 filmmakers were invited to make a music video for a karaoke showdown. Karl Lind was one of the lucky ones. He chose Devo's Gates of Steel which he interprets as a larger than life dark comedy.

I will not give too much away but I hear that it will be crowned as the best karaoke video ever.

The ever-charming and adorable Uli Beutter from
Sandymontana produced it, the calm and collected Nate Goodman was the DP, yours truly was the art director and acted with Karl. No production is complete without the lighting whiz: Christopher Covel. And a big hand for Arc Mission for helping me with the art dept, PAing on set and enduring the steamy hot ape suit for hours.

I was hoping SXSW was an isolated case but it's strike two for Whisky Marine. Folks at the Big Muddy Film Festival also thought our efforts weren't up to their standards. I hope we fare better with the international audience.

What a way to start off the month. I was riding high on the energy of creative process when it a tall wall today. Whisky Marine was rejected by SXSW! Don't know what else to say...
