I was starting to
think that I was trapped in some narrative short...
So Whisky Marine
got into
Cinequest. Great! They need to
receive the exhibition format by January 26th.
They listed formats I never dealt with before and
I chose the DV Cam - small, like mini DV but costs
way more.
I had been devoting almost every free minute fixing WM up. But when I was ready to print to tape, FCP started to act weird and not play the video. Since I didn't have a DV Cam deck, I went over to my friend's (Karl). It is a 12 minute short but after hour and half, I returned defeated. I returned to Karl's couple of days later, and the machines defeated me again. It was January 28th already. Cinequest was nice enough to give me another week.
Yesterday, I went into Food Chain Films to use their editing suite to get it onto the tape. After 5 hours, nothing worked. I had several people trying to solve this arcanum. It's simply beyond logic.
My former instructor, Courtney, suggested using Avid. But the only place I knew with Avid and DV cam deck was the Art Institute of Portland. Since I had been out of school more than 6 months, I didn't have student privileges. So I called Brad up since he still went to school. We met in the editing lab after his class little after 8pm. During the next 4 hours, I kept calling people for help while Brad toiled away. The school closes at midnight and he was able to get it on to the tape just a few minutes after.
The curse had been lifted! I felt so relieved. I finally had a bit of time to go grocery shopping. But of course, I got stuck in the check out line of the cashier who moved like a turtle and gabbed like a crow.

I know you’re
asking – did we have a facelift? Why yes, we’re all
for a surgery that’ll make us look better. And we
plan to have more cosmetic fixes as we age. (This
surgery was possible with help from
DR. Micah
Moss)
